Lightning Protection is a subscriber to the MASTER
LABEL SERVICE of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. as well as
to the Factory Inspection Program for Lightning Protection Components.
Under the
factory inspection service our lightning protection cables and components
are regularly inspected and tested by UL representatives. Maxwell
components bear the UL label or listed mark depending on the type of
components.
The Master
Label service is available for complete Lightning Protection Systems
which have been installed using only UL listed or labeled components
in accordance with UL Master Label Installation Requirements.
Underwriters
Laboratories is a non-profit organization engaged in testing for public
safety. It is THE ONLY third party testing and inspection service

party testing and inspection service available to purchasers of lightning
protection systems that DOES NOT have direct industry involvement.
It is not involved in the marketing, manufacturing, or installation
of lightning protection systems or components. Underwriters Laboratories
has been active in the testing and inspection of lightning protection
components and systems for over 70 years. Their experience in
the safety testing field has earned them world wide recognition and
respect. UL is not a trade organization with proprietary interests.
Underwriters
service for the lightning protection industry involves three different
labels. Illustrations of these labels as well as the Master Label
application are shown below. The top two labels are applied to
conductors and air terminals at the factory. The bottom Master
Label is mailed direct to the property owner following proper application
by a listed lightning protection installer in good standing. For
new or re-instated installers, the master label will be presented following
inspection by UL representatives.
Briefly,
the Master Label service provides for the proper installation of factory
inspected lightning protection components. A listed installer
must demonstrate his ability to install listed components in accordance
with the installation requirements of Underwriters Laboratories, UL96A.
Upon completion of an installation the listed installer will complete
the Master Label Application, obtaining the required signatures.
The application set contains four copies; one for the property owner
or his representative, one for the installer, and two are forwarded
to UL for further processing and the issuance of the Master Label.
Following
the issuance of the Master Label, UL representatives will make actual
field inspections of the systems. Should they find variances from
requirements, they will issue variation notices and the installer will
further master label work until such time as all variations have been
corrected.
THERE IS NO
SUBSTITUTE FOR THE MASTER LABEL
